About The Role

Purpose

As a Product Owner for the Data Platform, you will play a pivotal role in delivering 7IM’s Data & AI Strategy, translating strategic aims around Data Architecture & Quality, Data Governance, and Data Security & Privacy into tangible outcomes.

The Data Platform is a core enterprise capability, supplying value across the organisation, from operational applications and analytics to financial reporting and governance. You will champion data-driven decision-making, ensure robust governance, and help deliver a scalable, secure, and innovative platform that provides a single, trusted view of data and the flexibility to support safe, explainable AI.

Acting as the link between Data Architecture, Governance, Security, and delivery Squads, you will ensure the platform continually evolves, enabling faster, safer, and smarter data for the whole business. In short, this role turns strategy into delivery, making data at 7IM secure, compliant, and genuinely useful across every product, service, and decision.

Responsibilities

Become a deep subject matter expert for the Data Platform at 7IM, understand the different data sets and how these join together to provide expert advice to stakeholders across the 7IM group on all data matters. Using this knowledge make high quality judgement calls on both the work to be done and the prioritisation of deliveries.

Product Backlog & Delivery
  • Own and prioritise the Product Backlog ensuring appropriate trade-offs are made as required and well communicated across all stakeholders.
  • Translate requirements into clear user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Shape and prioritise the evolution of the Data Platform architecture — ensuring services, pipelines, and curation layers are designed for reuse, scalability, and semantic consistency.
  • Maximise value delivered in each sprint, ensuring alignment with quarterly goals and the overall Data Platform strategic vision.
  • Ensure all deliveries are in line with the 7IM Data Platform principles.
  • Represent the Data Platform within the Data & AI Strategy Steering Group, ensuring all backlog items support data quality, lineage, and audit readiness.
  • Define and track Platform success metrics, adoption, governance compliance, cost efficiency, and self-service enablement.
  • Own roadmap items for Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) and Data Catalogue integration.
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, security, and governance considerations are constantly at the forefront of what we do.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
  • Act as the voice of data transformation for the Adviser Platform, engaging with stakeholders across technology, data, compliance, and business teams.
  • Foster a shared vision for a modern, cloud-based, data-centric platform, ensuring requirements and priorities are well understood.
  • Work closely with Data Governance and Security & Privacy leads to align data classification, access philosophy, and cyber controls across the Platform and on-prem environments.
  • Communicate complex technical and governance concepts in clear, plain language that drives shared understanding and trust.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation
  • Drive the iterative development of the Data Platform’s layered architecture, refining data from raw ingestion through curated and semantic layers, ensuring each step increases business value and trust.
  • Drive continuous simplification, turning complicated architecture and governance patterns into accessible, reusable capabilities for Squads and Business teams.
  • Champion a culture of experimentation, continuous improvement, and learning; leveraging cloud and data innovations to solve business challenges.
  • Support the adoption of advanced analytics, AI/ML, and self-service data capabilities for internal and external users.
  • Ensure all data used for AI and advanced analytics is certified, lineage-traced, and bias-checked; support implementation of the Green/Amber/Red AI approval model.

Operational Excellence
  • Monitor and report on platform performance, scalability, and data KPIs, supporting evolution of the Data Platform strategic vision.
  • Manage coexistence with legacy data stores, applying consistent governance, quality, and migration plans to achieve parity across cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Ensure adherence to compliance standards, data privacy, and best practices in cloud and data management.

Other
  • Support product launches, training, and change management as new data and cloud features are delivered.
  • Manage key supplier relationships relevant to data services.
  • Adherence to all applicable compliance standards and best practices at all times.
  • Acting consistently in accordance with the 7IM VPVs.
  • Other, as reasonably required by your line manager and 7IM.
