About The Role

Purpose
Design, develop, test, release and support secure, reliable and maintainable software that delivers useful outcomes for 7IM, its clients and colleagues. Work across the full delivery lifecycle, using modern engineering practices and approved AI-assisted tools to improve speed and quality while retaining clear human ownership, review and accountability.

Responsibilities
• Deliver well-scoped software changes in line with feature delivery in collaboration with the team.
• Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code that follows 7IM architecture, security, engineering and data standards.
• Contribute to technical discovery and design, understanding the problem behind the request and making sensible trade-offs between user value, delivery speed, risk, cost and maintainability.
• Build automated tests at the appropriate unit, integration and regression levels, and support proportionate manual testing where needed.
• Take part in peer reviews of code, designs and documentation, giving specific feedback and applying the same quality bar to manually produced and AI-generated work.
• Use approved AI coding tools, including IDE assistants, chat-based tools and coding agents, productively and responsibly. Review outputs for correctness, security, licensing, maintainability and fit before they are committed or released.
• Break work into clear tasks, specifications and prompts that allow people and tools to work effectively, with appropriate review points and traceability.
• Follow disciplined version control, pull request, CI/CD, environment and release practices. Do not bypass quality gates, peer review or operational checks.
• Add useful logging, telemetry, error handling and operational documentation so services can be monitored, diagnosed, supported and recovered.
• Support production services, contribute to incident investigation and third-line support, and follow through on fixes and learning that reduce repeat issues.
• Keep progress, risks, assumptions and blockers visible. Work closely with product, testing, architecture, cloud engineering, information security and support colleagues.
• Understand the squad's domain, users, roadmap and OKRs, and connect day-to-day engineering choices to business and client outcomes.
• Identify technical debt, repeated manual effort and weak delivery or support practices, and contribute practical improvements through automation, simplification and better tooling.
• Share knowledge through documentation, pairing, walkthroughs and constructive support for other developers.
• Work in line with 7IM's values, policies and expectations for operating in a regulated environment, including security, risk, control and traceability.
• Carry out other reasonable duties requested by your line manager or 7IM.

About You

Qualifications
• Relevant degree or equivalent knowledge

Skills
• Proficiency in C#, modern .NET, API design and development, SQL Server and the web technologies used by the squad.
• Experience with Angular is preferred, although React experience is also useful.
• Working knowledge of Azure services, cloud-native delivery, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, source control and automated testing.
• Understanding of secure coding, identity and access, dependency risk, data protection, common web and API vulnerabilities, and the controls expected in a regulated financial services firm.
• Practical proficiency with AI tools for agentic development. Able to provide useful context and prompts, use repo-aware and agentic workflows where appropriate, validate generated code and tests, and recognise when AI should not be used.
• Clear understanding that AI-generated output is not trusted by default. The developer remains accountable for design choices, security, quality, licensing, testing and the production outcome.
• Ability to diagnose issues across code, configuration, deployment, data and runtime behaviour, using logs, telemetry and other operational evidence.
• Ability to break down problems, estimate with appropriate confidence, identify assumptions and dependencies, and raise risks or blockers early.
• Good written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain technical choices, trade-offs and uncertainty to technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Able to work effectively in an agile, multidisciplinary squad and take ownership through to production and support.
• Curious and willing to learn, share knowledge, respond constructively to feedback and improve how the team delivers.

Other relevant information
• Practical, collaborative and accountable approach.
• Good judgement and attention to detail, without losing sight of the outcome.
• Comfortable taking responsibility, asking for help and challenging weak assumptions constructively.
• Committed to ongoing development across engineering practice, domain knowledge and modern tooling.
• Reports to a Lead Software Developer.
